Uzbekistan, officially the Republic of Uzbekistan, is a doubly landlocked country in Central Asia, formerly part of the Soviet union. It shares borders with Kazakhstan to the west and to the north, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to the east, and Afghanistan and Turkmenistan to the south.

The minerals are mainly natrual gas, coal, petroleum, nonferrous metals, gold, copper, lead, zinc, and rare metals, gold reserves etc. Among the minerals, gold reserves rank fourth in the world, annual production of 80 tons, ranking 2nd in the CIS. Oil resources are more concentrated in the eastern Tianshan fold belt of the Fergana Basin, and the proven reserves are of 5.84 million tons.
